Langton’s 2007 Bordeaux En Primeur offer comprises the best wines or best value wines of the vintage.
It was a wonderful year for Sauternes/Barsac. The wines are utterly gorgeous with a rare opulence
and seductive beauty. They are highly recommended across the board. An Indian summer saved the 2007
claret (reds) vintage. While the outbreak of mildew threatened quality, vineyard management and luck
resulted in a number of surprisingly successful wines.
2007 is very much a vineyard management year. The first growths have all been able to show their
class and stature. Châteaux Mouton Rothschild, Latour, Lafite Rothschild, Margaux and Haut Brion
have all made outstanding wines through rigorous selection and detailed winemaking.
The 2007 Bordeaux En Primeur wines have attracted plenty of opinion from all corners of the world
of wine criticism. In previous times this vintage would have been an impossible challenge. However
we live in a golden age of wine where modern technology and contemporary winemaking techniques play
a vital role in defining quality. This is actually not a bad vintage. There are many very fine and
some outstanding wines. In a great year like 2000 or 2005 winemakers can pretty well dawdle around
and let the wine make itself.
In a year like 2007 intuitive action and ability are everything. While the left and right bank
producers worked hard to overcome ignoble weather patterns, Sauternes/Barsac revelled in the conditions.
The grapes ripened and developed textbook botrytis characters. The wines have a compelling richness
and minerality. Château Coutet, Château Rieussec, Château Lafaurie Peyraguey and Château Raymond
Lafon have all made lovely wines. Château Doisy Vedrines - a personal favourite - and the curiously
named Château de Myrat offer good value.
We have been very careful with our selections. Langton’s intends to offer Bordeaux En Primeur every
year at the best possible prices. We trust that you will find something of interest.

Langton’s
‘En Primeur’ is the French term for buying wine as ‘futures’: paying for wine before it is released
onto the market in order to secure wines that are in short supply or are at an advantageous price.
En Primeur wines are offered at first release price and are therefore at the lowest possible price.
These wines have a limited availability and most will not be available again for sale. Provenance
is guaranteed. Once purchased, prices are fixed and do not change with demand or foreign exchange
fluctuations.
