Penfolds On-Line Wine Auction

Closes Tuesday 1st September, 2009

One of the greatest collections of Penfolds wines will be sold at auction by Langton’s on the 1st September. The catalogue of over 2200 lots is a narrative of Penfolds groundbreaking winemaking philosophy and reflects an astonishing record of achievement over the modern era. It includes the historic 1951 Grange, the most recognised icons of Australian innovation and the astonishingly beautiful 1962 Bin 60A; voted one of top ten wines of the 20th Century. The on-line wine auction represents a superb opportunity to buy “ready-to-drink” and “laying-down” vintages of Koonunga Hill, Bin 128, Bin 28, Bin 138, Bin 389, Bin 407, Bin 707, Magill Estate, RWT, St Henri, Yattarna, experimental bins and Grange. Estimates range from less than $10 to $130,000 per lot!

Andrew Caillard MW, the biographer of Penfolds and Langton’s Fine Wine Principal said “Penfolds is one of the most bankable, consistent and reliable wine labels in the world. These beautiful wines have remarkable cross-generational and international appeal. It is an everyman’s wine with a track record of excellence from the inexpensive early drinking Koonunga Hill and Bin 28 Shiraz to the legendary Grange. The development of Penfolds richly structured and buoyant red wines capture Australian sentiment and our way of life. It is a story of ordinary people making extraordinary wines (at almost every price point). Penfolds is an Australian trust mark; almost every wine collector in this country has a few bottles stashed away.”

Langton’s on-line magazine features extracts from the wine collectors “bible” Penfolds Rewards of Patience, 6th Edition, Andrew Caillard, MW (Allen & Unwin 2008). The book is available at all good bookstores with tasting notes and ratings for almost every Penfolds wine ever made.
