Created as the ultimate expression of the world’s most awarded rum range, Legacy by Angostura is quite simply rum without equal. The culmination of almost 200 years of distilling heritage, it is an artful blend of seven of Angostura of Trinidad’s most rare and precious rums (each with a minimum age of 17 years), aged in once-used 200-litre American oak bourbon casks and presented in a bespoke 500ml decanter specially-made by jewellers to the Prince of Wales, Asprey of London. Just 20 decanters of this precious liquid will be released worldwide with Langton’s receiving the only one released in Australia, adding extreme rarity and collectability to unmatched artistry and excellence. A rum without peer. Presentation without peer. Peerless rarity. Befitting this unique combination, the Australian decanter of Legacy by Angostura will be the first in the world to be offered for auction through Langton’s.
THE RUM
Deep mahogany with copper hues and golden highlights. Several semi viscous legs form thin bars on the side of the glass, before turning into a rim of slowly moving droplets. Sweet lavender aroma first hits the nose, together with rounded vanilla and dark fruit. Behind the floral curtain is revealed robust caramel, coconut and underlying licorice notes. The Angostura Legacy has a well balanced and lightly fruity entrance with caramelised orange and a thick and slightly oily mouth feel typical to Trinidadian rums. There are dried sultanas, toffee and sweet rounded oak notes entwined with rich coffee flavours. A chest warming and a medium to long aftertaste abundant of vanilla, floral notes and plenty of coffee. Lingering on the tongue remains lightly honeyed notes as creamy vanilla coats the entire mouth and hints of sweet orange gently rise to the roof of the mouth as the final finish. THE DECANTER
Individually hand made by master level craftsmen from ten separate trades, the design of the Legacy by Angostura crystal decanter is inspired by an original 1930s art deco decanter created by Asprey of London and Angostura’s 1824 and 1919 bottles. Each decanter is signed by Asprey, crowned by a sterling silver finial in the shape of a butterfly (the motif of this rum) on sugar cane in arrow, and presented in a hand-made wooden case, lined with silk and velvet and covered with soft Asprey Ascot Red calf leather.
The decanter of Legacy by Angostura to be offered at auction by Langton’s will not only be one of just 20 such decanters to ever be offered worldwide, it will also be the first. More than any other, then, this is the chance to own a piece of history. The ultimate rum? Or the ultimate collectible? Perhaps the only true answer is that Legacy by Angostura is both.
