News
Over the last 15 years Langton’s have built a thriving secondary market for ultra-fine Australian and imported wine. While both our Live and Silent Bid auctions have served us well, it is the online auction format that is proving to have much greater market reach. The sheer volume of demand and the participation rate is stark proof that online auctions are the way of the future. Price realizations are firmer, the number of buyers has increased dramatically and overall clearance rates have become stronger. For Langton's, selling wine over the internet brings with it an opportunity to set new standards of customer service.
Since its launch six months ago www.langtons.com.au is being constantly refined to meet your needs. We are now able to offer our vendors a new way of trading wine. Just like buyers, vendors can now manage all their trading with Langton’s online. Our new online vendor account makes it even easier to sell through Langton’s Fine Wine Auctions. Sellers can now scrutinize and enjoy every aspect of the wine auction process.
Langton’s are pleased to offer the following new services to our vendors:
- Free membership to www.langtons.com.au
- Account availability online 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days a year
- A live record of the bidding activity on your lots in our current sale
- A comprehensive listing of your warehouse inventory
- Complete trading history and payment status
- Confidential and secure transactions
These benefits are of course in addition to Langton’s traditional vendor services:
- Specialist market knowledge and analysis
- Wine valuations
- Cellar removal and cataloguing
- Buying and cellaring advice
If you are not yet a Langton’s vendor and you would like to take advantage of this offer please contact us for more information. For more information about selling with Langton's please select Customer Service/Selling above.
If you are already a Langton’s vendor simply contact us for your Member ID and Password. This will enable you to login to the My Account area where you will find your online account waiting. If you are an existing Langton’s buyer as well as vendor, simply use your current Member ID and Password to login to My Account as you normally do. You will find your vendor account has already been activated.
Langton’s philosophy of building a national and international network of loyal and satisfied buyers has ensured stable prices and a degree of certainty in the market. Unlike eBay style auctions where the auctioneer accepts lots for sale without scrutiny, at Langton’s the listing and cataloguing of wine for our sales is a precise activity. While bar coding is a feature of the larger wine industry, of necessity the auction process deals with single bottles of varying description, condition and vintage. When it comes to cataloguing wine the human eye is a far better processor than an electronic one. At Langton’s every bottle is inspected and catalogued by hand before being entered as a lot into our in-house system. Langton’s dedicated cellar team is expert in understanding how to scrutinize, handle and catalogue wine.
2003 Event Sales – Entries Invited
Langton’s is planning three special event wine auctions in 2003. These auctions are themed, limited lot sales highlighting the very best Australian wine. The lot selection for these sales is carefully planned, with the aim of making the catalogue as comprehensive yet focused as possible. These auctions have been highly successful in the past, providing a stimulus to the secondary market. Prospective sellers who wish to participate should contact us with their lists as soon as possible.
