Domaine de Chevalier, one of the best-known estates in Pessac Leognan, and Château Guiraud (which neighbours Château d’Yquem), a First Growth Sauternes, represent the essence of contemporary winemaking philosophy and generosity of spirit. Conjoined by fellowship and sense of place these two grand cru estates transcend the madness that has swept through Bordeaux in recent times. If Château Lafite represents the pinnacle of Bordeaux prestige and power, Domaine Chevalier and its affiliate Château Guiraud symbolise the essence of noblesse oblige and understatement. The wines are gorgeously seductive and epitomise the very best of genre without the hype, sycophancy and greed that pervades the current scene.
The master class will highlight the indelible stamp of terroir and the evolution of winemaking across the spectrum of styles. The white and reds of Domaine de Chevalier are steeped in classicism and modernity. Château Guiraud is back to its substantial and evocative best. The tasting will be followed by dinner, conversation and a suite of beautiful vintages especially selected for a memorable evening. A taxi home is obligatory!
