Selling Langton’s is Australia’s foremost marketplace for fine Australian and imported wine. With two distinct markets – our Auctions and our Exchange – selling at Langton’s means that we can achieve results unmatched by any competitor. We hold Auctions 365 days a year and our Exchange trades year-round.

Selling At Langton's

Langton’s is known internationally for its expertise and knowledge of the Australian fine wine market. Your wine joins the largest listing of fine Australian wine in the world and Australia’s largest listing of fine imported wine. We are the world’s leading market for Penfolds Grange. Selling through www.langtons.com.au means there are no longer any geographical barriers to reaching a national and international market of buyers.

Langton’s Exchange trades in cases only. At Auction you can sell a single bottle or multiple bottles including mixed lots of different wines. Each year at Langton’s we sell more than 100,000 lots at Auction and on our Exchange 25,000 cases of Australia’s finest wine.

Australia’s best service

Langton’s is dedicated to providing our vendors with Australia’s best service. We offer a comprehensive and confidential service, including competitive commissions, valuations, cataloguing, market analysis, cellar removal and shipping.

Take advantage of our market strength, reputation and extensive national and international network of buyers. Langton’s have offices and warehouses in Sydney and Melbourne and through our association with Christie’s Australia in Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth. Whether you have a single bottle or an entire cellar, you will receive expert advice regarding the sale of your wine.

Valuations

The first step in selling your wine is to find out how much it is worth. Langton’s provides a unique value-it-yourself valuation service. Established in the late 1980s our price database records and tracks the auction price movement of over 15,000 individual wines. Updated after every sale, it is now available online. You can value your wine by going to Wine Tools/Price Guide.

If your wine is not listed in our database Langton’s will be happy to appraise your wine at no cost or obligation. We encourage all prospective sellers to value their wine and then send in their lists using Langton’s consignment form. You can find our consignment form by clicking Consignment located under both Auctions and Exchange.

Secure vendor account

As a vendor you receive a free Langton’s membership which entitles you to a personalised online account that allows you to manage all trading with us 24/7 on the WWW. Your online account is your passport to everything you need to do at Langton’s. You can preview what you get by clicking on My Account in our interactive Tour. You access the Tour by clicking on Help.

The price you get

At Auction your wine is listed in our auction catalogue and the price paid is the highest bid made at Auction. To ensure your wine does not sell below market value, at Auction house reserves are in place against all lots.

On our Exchange the seller sets the price. All Exchange wine sells by the case at the fixed price you have set. You can respond to market interest and contact us at any time to adjust the price.

What we charge

We charge a seller’s commission only when your wine sells and we do not charge for unsold wine. Insurance and storage while we hold your wine is free of charge. We base our commission rate on the quality and quantity of wine on offer – please contact us for a quote.

Getting your wine to us

If your wine is suitable for sale at Auction or on our Exchange and you wish to sell you can drop it off yourself or have it delivered to our Sydney or Melbourne warehouse. When your wine is delivered you need to provide a detailed listing. Upon delivery you get a receipt and you are advised which Auction your wine is being entered into.

Wine for sale on our Exchange needs to be in full cases and dropped off or delivered to our Melbourne or Sydney warehouse. If your wine is suitable for our Exchange it will be listed for sale immediately upon arrival.

If you are an interstate or country vendor we are happy to make delivery arrangements for you. We fully insure your wine at market value under Langton’s insurance policy once it is in our warehouse(s).

Confidentiality

Langton’s takes the confidentiality of our clients very seriously. All transactions with Langton’s are strictly confidential. Unless compelled to by law, Langton’s will not disclose any personal or business information to any outside party for any reason.

"Langton’s has done more than anyone to promote the secondary market for wine in this country. For years it has been the most serious wine auctioneer, a specialist wine house that has regular auctions, uses smart venues, publishes stylish catalogues and organises creative auction events, often linked to public tastings of great interest." Huon Hooke, Sydney Morning Herald
