Langton's 2013 Annual Review

Langton’s has proudly unveiled the inaugural Langton’s Annual Review, a look back over the year in fine wine. A snapshot of the most popular wines traded through Langton’s in 2013, it’s a picture of the real world of fine wine through the drinking lens of the customer.

Langton’s overall fine wine marketplace attracts a diverse range of customers including every day drinkers, wine trade buyers, wine producers, suppliers and collectors. Its fine wine specialists and brokers are in regular contact with Langton’s clientele on both sides of the trading equation.

Rather than an esoteric wish-list of left-field, exotic varieties, or a catalogue of impossible-to-find or unaffordable 100-point wines, the annual review of Australian and New Zealand wines is compiled through the prism of Langton’s customers’ buying tastes and offers a brilliant insight of trends and sentiment over the past year.

Langton’s Annual Review is a compilation and distillation of the most popular wines sold through its brokerage, winery direct, general wine auction and exchange businesses, but excluding wines from Langton’s Classification of Australian Wine V (which comprises distinct rules of vintages made and auction track record before qualification).

Langton’s top 200 best-selling wines of 2013 (by volume and value of sales) were further short-listed to 50 wines through a rigorous blind tasting. The selection panel comprised Langton’s founder Andrew Caillard, MW, Head of Fine Wine, Gavin Lennard and Fine Wine Specialist, Andrea Pritzker. Langton’s Annual Review is therefore not only a review of the season’s best selling wines, but also an expert recommendation to its clientele.

Gavin Lennard says, “The Langton’s Annual Wine Review reveals to our customers a remarkable diversity of superb Australian and New Zealand wines. Ranging from $20 to $130 a bottle, these top fifty wines represent the very best and most captivating offers made by Langton’s over the last year. This list is the ultimate recommendation for fine wine drinker’s leading into Christmas. Every wine delivers wonderful quality and value. ”

Langton’s is Australia’s premier fine wine business. First established in 1988 as a fine wine auction house, it has since expanded to include exchange, brokerage and winery direct services. Accompanying Langton’s reach into the world of fine wine is an incredible network of fine wine customers and a unique perspective of the fine wine market in Australia.

The full Langton’s Annual Review, comprising tasting notes and opinion, is published below. Many of the wines are still available and can be purchased through Langton’s brokerage service.
