Week in Review 17-11-18

‘tis the season of end of year awards, countdowns and best-ofs. Some are less noteworthy than others but for the Australian wine scene, James Halliday’s Top 100 is definitely one to watch. We’ve selected a just a few of the wines from our portfolio that have made it into James Halliday’s Top 100 2018.

Top 100 Highlights.

Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier

Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier Canberra District 2017

A modern classic, one of Australia's greatest expression of Shiraz.
"A co-fermented 94/6% blend. The hue is good, although not deep - pinotish. Tim Kirk nails it when he writes of a line of pure spice running through the bouquet and palate - I would simply add ‘and the aftertaste' because this has superb length and texture, replete with red berry flavours. Clonakilla at its best."

Oakridge Over the Shoulder

Oakridge Over the Shoulder Pinot Noir Yarra Valley 2017

From multi-award winning winemaker David Bicknell
“Hand-picked, chilled overnight, 90% whole-berry fermented, a 10% whole bunch component blended in. Bright crimson-purple; an example of great things coming from the '17 vintage. A beautiful pinot for drinking now or later. Long, pure cherry plum fruit; fine tannins."

Turkey Flat Shiraz Barossa Valley 2016

Turkey Flat Shiraz Barossa Valley 2016

Made in part from ancient vines dating back to 1847
“From vines dating back to 1847, hand-picked, open-fermented with 10% whole bunches, matured in French oak (40% new) for 18 months. This beautifully crafted wine has power and presence, and a purity of taste and structure. The black fruits have waves and crosscurrents of flavour and texture, the finish long and balanced.”
