When it comes to Pinot Noir, Yabby Lake is on a massive winning streak.
Back in 2013, Yabby Lake Block 1 Pinot Noir 2012 was the first Pinot Noir ever in the trophy’s 52 year history to take out the prestigious Jimmy Watson Trophy at the Royal Melbourne Wine Show, beating out a huge number of top red wines from around the country.
Fast forward to late 2014 when the Block 2 2013 stole the show at the National Wine Show in Canberra winner four trophies including the revered Len Evans Memorial Trophy for Champion Wine of Show. The wine also took home the Best Pinot Trophy at the Royal Brisbane Wine Show earlier in 2014.
Now that same wine has continued its winning streak scooping an unprecedented six trophies at the Royal Sydney Wine Show including best single vineyard wine, best Pinot Noir, best red wine of show, best small producer wine and best wine of all the state wine shows.
For Yabby Lake winemaker extraordinarire Tom Carson it’s a very special time in Australian wine.
“As a winegrower and maker it’s incredibly exciting to see the evolution of the variety in this country. We’re really starting to identify some special sites for pinot noir and there is such a terrific breadth of characterful wines coming through. There has never been more excitement and interest in Australian pinot noir.”
With this incredible hat trick by Yabby Lake, the future of Pinot Noir in Australia looks very bright indeed.
