About this wine
Château Latour-à-Pomerol, Pomerol
Château Latour-à-Pomerol is one of the leading Pomerol properties and - while unclassified - one of the great crus of the Gironde. Latour-à-Pomerol consists of just under 8 hectares of vineyards split into two plots: the first is known as Les Grandes Vignes and is located on a gravel outpost next to the Church of Pomerol. The second plot lies on sandy, lighter soils and is to be found on the western side of the Pomerol plateau. Latour a Pomerol's grapes (90% merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc) are hand harvested and then fermented in temperature controlled concrete vats. The wine is then matured in small oak barrels (50% new) for 18 months. It is bottled unfiltered. Latour á Pomerol produces sumptuous, meaty, concentrated and full-bodied Pomerols that often require at least 10 years of cellaring. In the context of other top class Pomerols they remain underpriced.

James Suckling
This has a really tightly wound ball of fine tannins. Tight, so formed and intense. Really great. Blackberries, black truffles, dark mushrooms and dried flowers. Chewy, yet so integrated and refined. Super wine from here. Try after 2026.
97 points, James Suckling (January 2022)

Decanter
Wonderfully evocative nose, rich and vibrant, floral and perfumed alongside red fruits with a tiny touch of wood spice. Rich but dark and cooling, a brooding and bewitching style with liquorice-laced fruit and firm tannins. Serious, mouth filling, concentrated and rich but well delivered. There is a clarity to the fruit but this is all muscle and sinew at the moment. Lovely but tight and tense, so focussed with a hint of crushed stone and mint on the finish. A characterful style. Drinking window: 2025 - 2044

LANGTONS
"Deep colour. Beautiful. Dark plum, espresso aromas with vanilla notes. Richly concentrated with dark plum boysenberry fruits, fine chocolaty textures and underlying vanilla oak. Finishes chocolaty firm with al dente, walnut, ginger notes. Very attractive richness of flavour, extract and torque."
95-97 Points, Langton's
