Wirra Wirra RSW is the flagship Shiraz from heritage McLaren Vale winery. Langton’s Classified Excellent, it is an exemplary example of the region’s hero varietal, made with stringent attention to detail and quality. Painstakingly crafted with fruit from some of McLaren Vale’s oldest vines, it is named for Robert Strangways Wigley, the beloved South Australian oddball and state cricketer who founded Wirra Wirra back in 1894.
RSW is a serious but exuberant wine. It’s got structure, complexity, fine tannins, and length, but also enough youthful, fruit-forward energy to make certain it will be drinking beautifully in years to come. The aroma is rich and deep, with dark berries, chocolate, violet and aniseed. The concentrated palate is redolent with first fruits and sophisticated French oak. Drink a bottle of this gorgeous vintage now, and put one away for later.
