Region Tuscany

The picturesque region of Tuscany produces some of the greatest food wines in the world that offer a richness and complexity with Franceuit and savoury characters attributable to the noble Sangiovese grape variety. This 58,000 ha region is dominated by Sangiovese of various clones and classifications with the most famous being Chianti, Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, as well as the “Super Tuscans” usually based on Sangiovese with various amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot or Syrah in the blend. Tuscany enjoys a warm Mediterranean climate that provides ideal ripening conditions. Red wines dominate with 70% of production and 60% is of DOC or DOCG status. The complex and rich white wine Vernaccia di San Gimignano and the Vin Santo dessert wines made in the Passito, dried grape method are other specialties of the region.
