Elegant and fine, Domaine du Comte Armand's 'Les Fremiets' shows the lightness and understated delicacy for which Volnay is renowned.
Volnay is renowned for producing delicate, elegant and graceful wines. The appellation spans 242ha of vineyards, of which 115ha is divided among 26 Premier Crus. Some of the most notable of these are Bousse d'Or, Champans, Clos des Ducs, Les Caillerets and Santenots. Red wine from the Santenots vineyard is labelled as Volnay Santenots.
DOMAINE DU COMTE ARMAND
Arguably the most famous producer in Pommard, the wines of Domaine du Comte Armand have since the mid-eighties undergone a significant qualitative transformation, first under the leadership of French Canadian winemaker Pascal Marchand and currently under the helm of Benjamin Leroux. For many years the Clos des Epeneaux was the sole wine made at the domaine. In 1994, further vineyards were acquired; Auxey-Duresses, Auxey-Duresses premier cru, Volnay and Volnay Fremiets. Today the domaine maintains a strong adherence to biodynamic viticulture.
