Roberto Voerzio is a winemaker renowned throughout the industry, both for producing exquisite wines, and for an attention to detail it would be difficult to surpass. In his scrupulous and skillful hands, his 2014 Langhe Nebbiolo takes the old-fashioned high-tannin style of the varietal and turns it on its head. The result is a complex amalgamation of floral, citrus, fruit and spice that “competes favourably with the vast majority of Barolos,” rather than with a traditional Nebbiolo.

It’s a good Nebbiolo experience, fragrant and spiced with cinnamon, fresh strawberry and mint, and perhaps a little tar. Medium bodied, slightly sappy and crisp, with a run of dry and grainy tannin – a touch astringent – but lively and finely wrought, the finish brisk and fresh, and of moderate length. Easy to enjoy, but kind of bony, though with the right food, even better still.'
