Seppelt Drumborg Chardonnay, Grampians
The Drumborg Vineyard Henty Chardonnay is one of the prized Seppelt range from the Drumborg Vineyard planted by Karl Seppelt in 1964. Expressing purity and balance, the wines is made from select parcels cool-climate Chardonnay chosen for their balance between intense flavour and acidity.
"There’s an unwritten law/convention in Australia that the Seppelt wine labels must change every 18 months as a minimum. This law came into existence sometime around the mid to late 199os, or around about the same time as the dawn of widespread internet. There are no co-incidences in this world, just unmade connections.
Glorious chardonnay. It offers an intensely pure line of flavour. Lemon curd and white peach, bacony oak, oatmeal and toast. It powers through the palate and then powers through the finish. Almonds, florals and grilled-peach characters to the aftertaste. A super wine. A great option for the mid term cellar." 95 points Campbell Mattinson.
HentySituated 300 km west of Melbourne in Southwestern Victoria, Henty was named after the first family to settle in Victoria in the 1800’s. The region was pioneered in 1964 by Karl Seppelt, who recognized that the cool climate was ideal for the production of sparkling and aromatic wines. The Seppelts planted 100 hectares at Drumborg in 1964 and this was followed by Crawford River in 1975. The long, gentle autumn ripening period allows the retention of both acid and aromatics crucial for Henty’s flagship variety, Riesling.
