DOMAINE DE LA VOUGERAIE Clos du Roi, Corton 2012

This wine is sourced from Domaine de la Vougeraie’s 0.49 ha parcel of vines in the Clos du Roi Grand Cru vineyard on the slopes of the hill of Corton. The vines planted in the early 1950’s are anchored on calcareous pebbly soil with iron rich red clays and marl and perched on the steep mid-slope with an easterly aspect. After the grapes are harvested by hand most fruit is destalked and not crushed. The amount of whole bunch fermentation varies with vintage and a four-day cold pre-fermentation maceration takes place before fermentation begins naturally with indigenous yeasts. Following pressing, the wine is matured in 60% new oak from the forests of Allier, Nevers and Tronçais for 12-18 months depending on the vintage.
