When previously tasted in Sept '16, I suggested a drink-to date of '18 - in retrospect that was too short for a 750ml bottle, and now there are also a limited number of magnums available. One of my few abiding regrets is that I purchased bottles of champagne and top-end Aus sparklings rather than magnums - I urge you to grab one or two bottles/magnums of Arras style at its towering best, with layer upon layer of complexity ex brioche, toast, flint, white peach and apple.

Fresh honey, ripe stone fruits, brioche, whiffs of vanilla, an all up ‘come hither’ kind of perfume, with seduction at full tilt, and sense of savoury-sweetness. Full cream in the palate, vigorous, fine bubbles, exceptional length, a general sense of sophistication and balance of richness, freshness and savouriness. Brilliant wine. Upper echelon.

An outstanding wine, complex and multi-layered with smoky, strawberry and freshly-baked bread aromas, the palate elegant and refined but also generous in flavour, with soft texture and superb balance. Trophy, best sparkling, 2016 Sydney Royal Wine Show.
