The name Arianna Occhipinti is spoken reverentially in wine bars worldwide that are leaning in to the new breed of Italian winemakers. Her creations are much brighter and higher in acid than your classic Nero d’Avola, and her instincts run in the veins. Her uncle is Giusto Occhipinti of the famed COS collective.
This is a complex Sicilian stunner. Yes, there’s a touch of funk (it’s natural wine, after all). But that’s just one string to a bow that is at once herbaceous, earthy, meaty, and moreish. There’s aniseed and cherry, with a line of minerality cutting through. If you’re in the mood, a light chill would suit this well.
