Domaine Faiveley Grand Cru, Corton-Charlemagne
This Grand Cru comes off a plot of 0.616 ha owned by Faiveley within the 52.44 large Corton-Charlemagne vineyards. The vineyard has a south to south-west aspect with mainly grey marl soils. The Chardonnay grapes are hand harvested, vinified and matured in 65% new fine-grained oak barrels for 14 to 16 months in Faiveley’s cool nineteenth century vaulted cellars.
'Faiveley is one of the best and most consistent sources of fine Burgundy and one which should continue to set the standards for both negociants and growers .'
- The Great Domaines of Burgundy
Corton-Charlemagne has a striking gold robe, even in its youth, and a remarkably generous nose of cinnamon, walnuts, pepper, tropical fruit, and amber. It has a soft mouthfeel that is enlivened by bright acidity, as well as a naturally high alcohol content that makes it quite powerful, concentrated, and long.
