Sidewood Estate Shiraz Adelaide Hills
The Sidewood Shiraz is made from estate-grown fruit. The vineyard sits at 380m above sea level, taking advantage of the cooler temperatures.
Winemaker Darry Catlin cold soaks the fruit and allows wild yeast ferment of a mix of whole bunch and whole berry. The wine is then matured in French oak (with around a quarter new) for approximately 18 months.
This is the complete package. Cold soak, wild yeast ferment with partial whole bunch, partial whole berry, matured in French oak (25% new) for 18 months. The result is a wine of great complexity to both texture and flavour, savoury black cherry, blackberry and forest notes. Skilled winemaking with 5-star success.

ADELAIDE HILLSLocated to the east of Adelaide, the Adelaide Hills is part of the Mount Lofty Ranges. Considered a cool-climate region, most vineyards are situated at elevations between 450 to 550 metres. Rainfall is relatively high and spring frosts often pose problems. Hot northerly winds also make bush fires a real threat in the region. Adelaide Hills is a jigsaw of meso-climates, with the best vineyards centred around Piccadilly Valley and Lenswood in protected sites facing north or north-east. Soils are derived from schistic and sedimentary rock; typically well-drained sandy loams over red clay interspersed with schistic gravels. A premium wine-growing region, Adelaide Hills is best known for crisp, lively Sauvignon Blanc and elegant cool climates styles of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz.
Owners and Vignerons, Owen and Cassandra Inglis founded Sidewood in 2004 borne of their uncompromising vision and passion for creating beautifully balanced, elegant, award-winning wines. Despite Sidewood being a relatively new brand in the wine industry, it has already achieved Five Red Star Accreditation from James Halliday and in 2016 became the largest eco-sustainable winery in the Adelaide Hills.
Situated a short drive east from Adelaide in the Onkaparinga Valley, the winery and vineyards are nestled in the cool- climate region of the Adelaide Hills, a heartland of Australian premium wine. The vineyard portfolio includes locations in Echunga, Nairne and Verdun with the original 300-acre Oakbank vineyard also being home to Sidewood’s 40 thoroughbred racehorses that fall under the name, Stable Hill Thoroughbreds.
