The Lane Vineyard Block 5 Shiraz, Adelaide Hills
The Block 5 is a blend from The Lane’s oldest Shiraz plantings with a selection of their close planted Shiraz vines. This is a wine that is made in a contemporary style — immediately drinkable and expressive of terroir. So much so the coordinates are presented on the label so you know exactly where the grapes come from.
"Deep crimson; an estate-grown, medium-bodied shiraz that combines elegance with considerable depth and complexity. Black cherry fruit, spice, pepper and licorice sit comfortably in a chair of oak, tannins providing the seat. The postscript is a dash of cleansing acidity."

"Looking back over the last few vintages, this Block 5 has been an excellent performer in the affordable cool climate Shiraz stakes.
Cracked pepper, red and black fruits, meat and dried herb, a little aniseed perfume wafting in there too. Medium bodied, savoury and spicy, grainy tannin, even acidity, and a vibrant finish of excellent length, boysenberry and cracked black pepper in its wake. Sophistication and class at a very fair price."

ADELAIDE HILLSLocated to the east of Adelaide, the Adelaide Hills is part of the Mount Lofty Ranges. Considered a cool-climate region, most vineyards are situated at elevations between 450 to 550 metres. Rainfall is relatively high and spring frosts often pose problems. Hot northerly winds also make bush fires a real threat in the region. Adelaide Hills is a jigsaw of meso-climates, with the best vineyards centred around Piccadilly Valley and Lenswood in protected sites facing north or north-east. Soils are derived from schistic and sedimentary rock; typically well-drained sandy loams over red clay interspersed with schistic gravels. A premium wine-growing region, Adelaide Hills is best known for crisp, lively Sauvignon Blanc and elegant cool climates styles of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz.
