Sicily today is one of the most exciting wine regions in the world – and Girolamo Russo and COS are leaders of the <strong>Sicilian wine renaissance.</strong> <br><br> Giuseppe Russo (son of founder Girolamo) is acclaimed as the master of <strong>Nerello Mascalese</strong>, an <strong>indigenous red grape variety</strong> that delivers a <strong>savoury, spicy, red-fruited wine.</strong> COS (the name uses initials of the three original founders) works mainly with Nero <strong>d’Avola</strong> and <strong>Frappato</strong>, also indigenous varieties, to make wines that embrace ancient traditions. Both grow their grapes organically – keeping yields low – and COS is fully <strong>biodynamic</strong>. <br><br> This six-pack includes two bottles each of… <br><br> <strong>Girolamo Russo 'a Rina Etna Rosso 2014</strong><br>Nerello Mascalese grown on sandy, lava based soils at 650-780m on Europe’s largest and most active volcano. Less than 600 dozen made. ‘Aromas of toast, hazelnut, ripe berry and spice lead the nose while the structured palate doles out succulent black cherry, crushed raspberry, fennel and mineral. Fine-grained tannins leave a firm finish.’ Kerin O’Keefe, Wine Enthusiast. <br><br> <strong>COS Frappato 2014</strong> <br>An almost impossibly fresh-tasting, organic wine, 100% Frappato, fermented and aged for a year in temperature-controlled cement tanks. The ancient sands and limestone terroir of Vittoria translates, in the glass, to crunchy red fruits and berries with sappy, spicy elements in the background. <br><br> <strong>COS Cerasuolo di Vittoria 2014</Strong><br> Signature wine, a blend of 60% Nero d’Avola and 40% Frappato, both fermented in cement tanks. The Nero is subsequently matured in old Slavonian oak and provides the wine’s backbone. Frappato adds an aromatic, fruity/floral lift and crisp acidity.
