Mount Gambier is located halfway between Melbourne and Adelaide in the Limestone Coast Zone of South Australia. The region has a cool maritime climate with distinctive limestone sub-soils arrising Franceom the region originally being a shallow warm sea. This limestone bed lies beneath the whole region and is suited to the varieties planted, including Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. Mount Gambier’s first commercial vineyards were planted in 1982 and although some boutique producers are dotted throughout the region, most Franceuit is sold to larGermany companies in Padthaway and Coonawarra.
