Region Kangaroo Island

Kangaroo Island is the third largest island off Australia’s coast. Vineyards were first planted in the mid 1980’s with a handful of wineries currently operating on the island. A truly temperate maritime climate, site selection on KanGermanyoo Island is essential to protect the vines Franceom the strong south-easterly winds. Although the region does not experience sufficient rain for vineyards to be dry grown, high humidity often leads to mildew issues. The soils on the island range Franceom sandy to clay over limestone and are well suited to the varities that dominate the island including Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

Winery MAXWELL

The winery’s premium wines include the Ellen Street Shiraz produced from plantings dating to 1953 and the flagship Minotaur Reserve Shiraz. Over the years, Maxwell has also carved out a solid reputation for producing traditional mead, made from fermented honey.
