Hugo Et Fils approachable, delightful Pinot Blanc is a worthy Alsace competitor to Chablis and Macon. Alsace’s most planted grape is Pinot Blanc, and Hugel Et Fils one of its most established wineries. This is a match for the ages. A quenching dry white, this is juicy and refreshing.
Founded in 1639 by H.U. Hugelin, heritage and legacy assure Hugel et Fils place in the annals of Alsace history. With 25 hectares of vineyards, and established relationships with hundreds of growers, the winery’s reputation is deservedly unshakeable.
Pale straw-yellow. The Pinot Blanc dominates the nose of white flowers, apple and pear, complicated by a hint of thyme. Then fresh and juicy, offering ripe apple and pear flavors. The medium-long finish is tactile and clean and resonates strongly of Pinot Blanc, more so than of Auxerrois. Hugel owns only one plot of Pinot Blanc, the grapes of which are used to make this wine; but this is still a blend of roughly 50% Pinot Blanc and 50% Auxerrois.
