The Benanti 2014 Etna Rosso Nerello Mascalese is a tight and elegantly streamlined wine with a firm tannic structure that is followed by dehydrated tones of wild cherry, forest fruit, grilled herb and balsam herb. Flint, mineral and licorice are also thrown into the aromatic presentation. Fruit is sourced from both the northern and the southern flank of the Etna volcanic cone.

Light to mid-red colour, with little purple tint. Walnut aromas, savoury and dry. Fresh earth and pepper. Leathery, savoury. Drying oak effect. Intense, focused and fine in the mouth, lively, very dry. Firm, drying tannins and extreme sapidity. It has a perverse kind of subtle charm. (All aged in second-use French tonneaux of 500 litres. The vintage is proclaimed one of their best for many years.)
