The Langhe (in Piedmont, Northern Italy) is a Nebbiolo paradise - producing expressive red wines that are being imitated more and more throughout the New World. These foreign Langhe likenesses, like those of their Barolo and Barbaresco kin, are really no match for the real thing.

"As with so many Langhe Nebbiolo in 2015, plenty of flavour delivered for the price. Now under screwcap. Importer: Langtons. A darker fruit profile, spice and new leather, succulent and ripe with pleasant gently sandy tannin, spice, undergrowth and black tea, but mainly about ripe fruit with enough structure to support, but not overwhelm the pleasure of enjoying it as a young wine. Nebbiolo 101. Tick." 91 points, Gary Walsh, The Winefront, September 2018
It’s from Vignetto San Francesco Fontenazza, though they run it into one word on the label. La Morra producer with a dash of new oak... It’s a good Nebbiolo experience, fragrant and spiced with cinnamon, fresh strawberry and mint, and perhaps a little tar. Medium bodied, slightly sappy and crisp, with a run of dry and grainy tannin -- a touch astringent -- but lively and finely wrought, the finish brisk and fresh, and of moderate length. Easy to enjoy, but kind of bony, though with the right food, even better still. 90 points, Wine Front.
"Strawberry jam, white pepper and floral notes mark this linear red. Pliable enough to enjoy now, yet has the structure to last over the short term." 88 points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator (2019)
"The Grasso family was forced to farm very carefully in the scorching hot 2017 vintage. Leaves were left on the vines to provide shade for the clusters, and grasses between the vineyard rows were not cut in order to isolate the soils below. The 2017 Langhe Nebbiolo Gavarini sees fruit sourced from the youngest vines in the prized Rüncot site. Declassified grapes from that important cru are directed to this wine instead. This is a structured and richly textured Langhe Nebbiolo with dusty mineral sensations on the close. Gianluca Grasso is particularly proud of the hard work dedicated to this excellent value wine." 90 points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (June 2018)
