Langton's Australian Chardonnay Showcase 6-Pack
Today we get to choose great Australian Chardonnay from multiple sources. Well-established regions of the Yarra, Margaret, Adelaide Hills and Tasmania. But also we’re increasingly looking towards Beechworth (VIC) and Mount Barker (WA). A small subset of the Australian Chardonnay drinking public has been on to these two regions for decades. These days, they are regularly represented on wine lists and asked for by our clients.
Explore six of the best Australian regions for Chardonnay. In this mix six-pack you’ll find one of each of the following;
'Absolutely nails all that is good about Margaret River Chardonnay. Bright grapefruit and white peach fruit glide along a palate with great mouthfeel from its fruit, acidity and touches of grilled cashew nuts. Nothing wasted here, nothing included without need.'
96 points, James Halliday, Wine Companion, March 2019.
'Gin Gin and Bernard clones 76, 95 and 96, chilled, whole-bunch pressed to French oak (20% new) for a cool, wild yeast fermentation (partial MLF) and 9 months maturation. This is a sumptuously rich chardonnay that keeps its belt tight thanks to all important natural acidity keeping off centre stage, allowing white peach and nectarine to joust with the grapefruit and melon flavours.'
96 points, James Halliday, Wine Companion, February 2018.
'Light yellow colour with a complex smoky-reductive and toasted nut bouquet. Abundant oak. It's rich and full in the mouth but also taut and refined and retains excellent structure. Terrific nervosity, line and length here.'
96 points, Huon Hooke, The Real Review, January 2019.
'Wild-fermented in French oak, matured for 8 months. The richest of the Soumah range, but doesn't rely on sweetness (there is none) nor extraction. The balance and length are both exceptional, the pure varietal expression courtesy of grapefruit and zesty acidity. Will flourish with more time in bottle.'
95 points, James Halliday, Wine Companion, February 2018.
