Neil Jericho is already an industry legend, with close to 40 years making wine and running wine companies in Europe and Australia. The family’s Jericho S3 Shiraz 2017 is, as Wine Front’s Campbell Mattinson says:
“Light on oak, light on alcohol but with the big full flavour of McLaren Vale Shiraz… It hits the sweet spot… ever-so-fresh. Perfect ‘any-time, any-where’ red.”
I like McLaren Vale shiraz when it is made as a mid-weight sappy wine, redolent of lilac, olive, smoked meat and pulpy berry fruits, rather than the behemoths that can define the region. This is in the ilk of the former. Juicy, eminently enjoyable and best drunk slightly cooler than the norm.

It meets its brief handsomely. It hits the sweet spot. Lots of fruit but with a lighter feel. Blueberries, violets, anise and rounds of woodsy spice notes. A smoky graphite character too. Interesting and yet essentially fruit-driven. And ever-so-fresh. Perfect ‘any time, any where’ red.
