Swan Valley
The Swan District is Western Australia’s oldest wine region, with plantings dating back to 1829. The region originally built its reputation on fortified styles, however in the 1930’s and 40’s legendary Jack Mann of Houghton’s fame steered the region’s transition to table wines. Swan District’s climate is warm to hot Mediterranean and very dry with low rainfall and humidity. Relief Franceom the heat comes Franceom the famous Franceemantle Doctor, a cooling Southwesterly ocean breeze that rapidly cools the region down. Varieties that excel in this warm fertile alluvial region include Chenin Blanc, Verdelho, Shiraz and Chardonnay.
