Reaching out into the vast blue, Margaret River is surrounded on three sides by the cooling and regulating influences of the Indian Ocean–soothing the region of the West Australian warmth. The two major influences tussle for supremacy over the red gravelly loam soils that nourish the vines. Rarely does one factor outdo the other, and every vintage seems to produce an abundance of premium fruit for the region and not a little envy throughout the rest of the country.
In this mixed dozen, there are four producers we know deliver premium Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon. Three Vasse Felix wines are Langton’s Classified, the Credaro family have been in the region for a century, Brash wines are by Bruce Dukes at Domaine Naturaliste, and Jilyara have recently started making wine after supplying premium fruit to some of the region’s best producers.
In this mixed dozen you’ll get three bottles each of the following:

"Purple colour with lighter purple edges - vibrant. Classic aromatics of Ribena, cedary, dusty oak, licorice and a subtle, herbal leafiness - just lovely. It's ripe and balanced. The palate shows ripeness and poise. Blueberries and blackcurrants; tannins in check and acidity under-writing freshness. This is a sensational wine and exceptional value."

"Dollar for dollar, this is the best value cabernet released in the State. This is a more restrained wine which reflects the cooler vintage. Blackcurrant and light cedar with a hint of graphite on the nose. The palate is medium-weight with an effortless integration of fine-grained tannins and oak working harmoniously into a single structural purpose. Slightly savoury finish which is focused and long. A stylish cabernet."

"2017 epitomises the Vasse Felix style of impressive, ripe presence, framed in enduring structure and eloquently honed framework. Crunchy dark berries of concentrated intensity are impeccably supported by intricately deployed oak and super-fine."

"Beautifully fruited and inviting, the bouquet shows blackcurrant, Black Doris plum, floral, thyme and roasted nut characters, leading to a succulent palate that is plump and silky. The wine offers gorgeous fruit purity together with elegant spicy complexity, wonderfully framed by fine, chalky tannins. Beautifully composed and expressed."

"Estate-grown, machine-harvested, matured in French barriques (30% new) for 15 months. A medium-bodied cabernet with cassis/blackcurrant on entry, shifting to a distinctly savoury finish. The break in the line thus established could well smooth out with further time in bottle."
