Dark purple. Seductive red and dark berry liqueur aromas are complicated by exotic incense, floral oil and spices; has the pungency of a head shop. Lush and creamy, with deep raspberry and mulberry flavors that reach every square inch of the palate. With its molten tannins, there are no rough edges to distract from the sweet berry fruit. I'm sure that this will age but I'd have no trouble drinking it now, and loving it.

Clarendon Hills Grenache Kangarilla 2005

A fresh and spicy grenache with some gentle, whole-bunch influence, as well as blue and purple berries, some earth and pepper. The palate has innate depth, and finely rendered tannins carry raspberries and red plums long. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

Ox Hardy Grenache 2020

While there is too much mocha-vanilla-infused oak enshrouding this, the fruit and structural latticework beyond it is sublime, auguring well for future change. The oak needs to be older, the formats larger. Otherwise, eggs, amphorae or any other porous, non-intrusive vessel. A shame. Raspberry bon-bon, thyme, orange zest and lavender. The acidity, juicy and palpably natural. The grape tannins, lithe and etched with grace. Oak, wrong! I score this with the promise to which I hold it.
