A new wine for Parker, I believe. Sourced from 55 year old vines, with 20% new oak. Coonawarra Shiraz is often a bit ho-hum for me, but sometimes it delivers something a bit more interesting.

Blackberry, raspberry, a dusting of pepper, spice, plus light vanilla oak. It’s dense and flavoursome, ripe gravelly tannin, a juicy but dense character, some black olive and ferrous things. Has length and a pretty sort of marzipan character trailing. This goes all right.

A northerly parcel that delivers vibrant blue and red-berry aromas with leafy tones, too. The palate has a succulent feel with a gently minty edge to the spicy red plums and blueberries. Mocha to close. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

Shiraz planted 50 years ago, fruit off Blocks 1 and 2, 13 days in 10T open static fermenters and aged for 16 months in French oak hogsheads, 20% new. A lovely shiraz from a lovely vintage. Excellent dark garnet with a shot of purple. Deep, earthy, savoury flavours wash over black plums and cherries. Fuller bodied, with beautiful tannins – plush, ripe and velvety soft. A long persistent finish completes a compelling wine.
