Antonio Galloni
VIETTI Castiglione, Barolo DOCG
Fragrant, polished and vibrant right out of the gate, the 2020 Barolo Castiglione displays beautifully-lifted notes of crushed red berry fruit, rose petal, mint, white pepper and orange peel. This classically built, mid-weight Barolo is classy to the core. Like all the 2020s here, it will benefit from time in bottle or a good decant.

ROBERTO VOERZIO Barolo del Comune di La Morra , Barolo DOCG
A fine and linear red with dark berries, bark, mushrooms and hints of dried spice. Firm and racy tannins and a flavorful finish. Dried orange peel. Needs four or five years to soften. Best after 2026.

PENLEY ESTATE Eos Shiraz Cabernet, Coonawarra
A blend of 70/30% cabernet sauvignon/shiraz. Fermented wild before going into French oak (40% new). Quality, pure and commanding. This is what Coonawarra is all about. Elegance, complexity and power all in one, matched to a tannin profile that feels uncompromised. Sweet tobacco, blackcurrant, spearmint, plum and cedar flavours put on a gala performance. It sure is tannic but, then, the fruit is up to it. Wonderful wine, with a huge future ahead of it.
