About this wine
Société Civile du Chateau Lafleur Les Champs Libres Sauvignon Blanc , Bordeaux
Les Champs Libres is the Guinaudeau family's pursuit of a white wine that reflects the precision and depth of Château Lafleur. Established in 2013 by Julie and Baptiste Guinaudeau, this wine originates from select parcels of Sauvignon Blanc on the clay-limestone plateau of Ambeau near Fronsac.
The winemaking process involves hand-harvesting and fermentation in oak barrels, followed by ageing on lees with bâtonnage for eight months. This approach imparts texture and complexity to the wine.
Each vintage offers a consistent profile: aromas of citrus, white flowers, and wet stones, leading to a palate of lime zest, green apple, and saline minerality. The medium-bodied wine has a crisp backbone and a long, zesty finish.
Les Champs Libres is a testament to the Guinaudeau family's dedication, delivering a wine that reflects the pedigree of its lineage while offering exceptional value.

Has there been a better launch in Bordeaux in recent years than this wine? Once again it presents an arresting, steel-tipped example of what can be produced in the region. Pummice stone texture, shot through with citrus, lime bud, lime zest, sage, grated ginger, confit lemon, with energy and lift. Unracked until this point, 80% new oak for ageing. Hard not to want to own this wine, from the same team as Lafleur in Pomerol.

The 2024 Les Champs Libres, pure Sauvignon Blanc picked on September 10 and 11, takes a little coaxing from the glass to gradually reveal subtle white flower, beeswax and Anjou pear scents. The palate is well balanced with lime cordial and citrus fruit on the entry giving way to hints of Japanese yuzu and Clementine towards the poised and persistent finish. This is simply one of the best whites produced in 2024 in Bordeaux.

The 2024 Les Champs Libres is vivid and beautiful but also quite reticent today. In 2024, Les Champs Libres is bright and nicely lifted, with deceptive depth to match its airy, refined personality. Les Champs Libres is 100% Sauvignon Blanc vinified and aged in French oak. Its balance is exquisite, even if the 2024 is not as showy as most vintages.

Lemon and lime rind with sliced green melon. Some fresh lemongrass as well as white-pepper undertones. Medium-bodied, this has a tactile and energetic palate.
