FRANCOIS RAVENEAU Chapelot 1er cru, Chablis 2018 Bottle
About this wine
Chapelot premier cru is typically bold and rich with floral, fruity and mineral notes and underlying savoury stony complexity. This wine comes off the 0.35ha parcel of the Chapelot sub-climat vineyard of the Montee de Tonnerre Premier Cru vineyard. This highly regarded Premier Cru site has a similar geological structure of the surrounding Grand Cru vineyards with south facing slopes and the limestone rich Kimmeridgian clay soils. Raveneau hand picks the grapes and uses only stainless steel for fermentation. Maturation takes place over 12-18 months in seasoned 7-8 year old oak barrels.

ABOUT THE WINERY
Francois Raveneau
Domaine Francois Raveneau is considered one of the very finest producers in Chablis crafting small quantities of wines with exceptional intensity, typicity and longevity predominantly from Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards. The domaine was established by François Raveneau in 1948 by consolidating his own vineyards with those owned by his wife’s family. During the 1960’s & 1970’s prices for vineyard land in Chablis slumped. François took advantage of this environment to expand the domaine’s vineyard holdings. Today the domaine comprises 9.29 ha including three sites within Chablis Grand Cru vineyards Les Clos, Blanchots and Valmur. Further land is owned within six Chablis Premier Cru vineyards including Montée de Tonnerre, Butteaux, Foret, Vaillons, Montmains and Chapelot. Now run by Francois’ sons Bernard and Jean-Marie, the domaine continues to uphold its stellar reputation for exceptional quality and consistency. The wines are fermented in stainless steel and subsequently matured in old oak barrels for twelve to eighteen months.
