About this wine
Veuve Cliquot Ponsardin La Grande Dame Rosé, Champagne
La Grande Dame Rosé is the most personal expression of Madame Clicquot's legacy. First released in 1988, it is crafted as a tribute to her vision of strength and precision in Champagne. The cuvée is drawn from eight Grand Cru vineyards, with Pinot Noir making up the backbone, typically around 90%, including a portion of still red wine from Bouzy. Chardonnay from Avize and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger lends lift and tension.
Each parcel is vinified separately before blending, then aged for nearly a decade on lees. This slow maturation shapes the wine's texture and depth while maintaining remarkable freshness.
In the glass, La Grande Dame Rosé shows notes of wild strawberry, blood orange, and dried flowers. The palate is poised, combining red-fruited richness with chalky drive and a savoury, saline finish that lingers. A refined and enduring expression of Veuve Clicquot's Grand Cru heritage.

Jeb Dunnuck
Pouring an electric pink color, the 2012 Champagne La Grande Dame Rose is showing very well at this stage, offering expressive notes of apricots, rosy perfume, wild raspberries, and fresh baked pastry. The palate takes on notable tension, with a chalky texture, a refined and zesty mousse, and a citrus-tinged finish. Refreshing and dry, it should have a good deal of longevity ahead. Drink 2025-2040. Disgorged in February 2021.

The new 2012 vintage of Veuve Clicquot's top rosé sweeps in full of dynamics and detail, the 13% proportion of red wine bringing a succulent red apple, rose and poached strawberry fragrance to 2012's finessed, narrowing build. There's an intriguing smoky/reductive streak at present too, setting off the fruit-forwardness and creamy undercurrent with a touch of drama and energy. This has the volume and immediacy to enjoy now, but even more impressive is the precision and build of a truly cellar-worthy rosé. 92% Pinot Noir from Äy, Verzenay, Verzy, Ambonnay and Bouzy (13% as red wine from Bouzy), 8% Chardonnay from Avize and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Dosage 8 g/L.

The 2012 La Grande Dame Rosé is based on the same blend as the 2012 Blanc but with 13-15% still red wine from Bouzy. A Champagne of polish and sophistication, the 2012 exudes class. Crushed red berry fruit, blood orange, mint, spice and rose petals open first in the bouquet before the textural richness of Pinot takes over as the wine fleshes out on the mid-palate and finish. This is beautifully done. Disgorged: February, 2021
