Huon Hooke
Medium red colour with a good purple tint. The bouquet is a mixture of smoky sulfides and toasty oak-derived notes, quite complex and inviting, revealing more dried floral and rose petal notes as it breathed. The palate is intense and firmly structured, with plenty of drying tannins and overall, the style is savoury and not grapy - typical of the maker. The mysterious undergrowth characters make it quite complex and intriguing. (50% whole-bunches)

Single vineyard pinot noir with plum, cherry, dried herb, five spice and nutty oak flavours. Still youthful with plenty of potential, although it can be appreciated now. Quite a rich and warming wine.

Supple, savoury pinot noir with cherry, berry, spicy oak and subtle fresh herb flavours supported by fine, peppery tannins. A bright, high-energy wine with Awatere Valley cool-climate character.

Mellow, silken-textured pinot noir with plum, cherry, floral, violet and subtle spicy oak flavours. A charming, seductive wine with power delivered with consummate subtlety. Dangerously drinkable.

A challenging year, but this 40% wholebunch (the rest being whole berries) Pinot Noir has loads of Far-Eastern spice to complement rich, dark black fruits. Fantastic acidity keeps everything in perfect harmony. Plenty of ageing potential, clearly showing the direction in which top Otago Pinot Noirs are headed.

Varietal, youthful, fresh and pure fruited bouquet with aromas of red plum and cherry, sweet raspberry and roses. A fine quiet layer of wood with baking spices of dusty vanilla and a moment of clove. On the palate - crisp, fresh fruity and dry with chalky tannins and medium+ acidity. Balanced, crunchy, youthful and ready to enjoy today and through 2026+.

This feels like a fine vintage across the various tiers tasted. The tannins ripe, svelte and gently firm. The acidity bright, but neither shrill nor hard. The fruit, impeccably ripe but subdued: rhubarb, sour cherry cola, damson plum and medicinal Chinese herbs as a savoury frame. Lovely sappy length. Effortless glide and drive. A superb Estate.
