A fragrant and very fine reserve. It kicks off with violets and cassis, menthol and blackberries, licorice and mocha then freshly rolled tobacco. The oak is well integrated, the tannins precise and persuasive and really, nothing is out of place. But given its youth, it is tightly wound and needs more time.

This is a close relative of RWT Bin 798 – single region and 100% French oak – and is dramatically different from Bin 707. This is a purist's cabernet, turning its face on the mastery of the regional blending that is the birthmark of the Penfolds red wine style. Vive la difference. Tannin is the heartbeat here, cassis and olive tapenade wrapped around the tannin, not vice versa. A roasted side of baby lamb is the way to go.

A very elegantly complex nose with meticulously fresh aromas that range from red florals to violets, blueberries, redcurrants, blackcurrants and such sweetly perfumed cedary-oak spice. The palate has a very elegant, focused and piercingly central delivery of fine tannins, carrying pristine redcurrant and blackcurrant flavors. Seamlessly long, super fine and really packed with concentrated, contained, red-cherry and redcurrant flavors. Impressive. Drink or hold.

From the 48yo Justin Vineyard in Frankland River, includes (as ever) 8% malbec, hand-picked and sorted, small open fermenters, 10 days on skins, wild yeast, matured for 16 months in French barriques (50% new). Magnificent wine. It would make Jack Mann glow with pride and proclaim 'it is resplendent in its generosity'.

Hand-picked and sorted, destemmed, fermented in header-board vats or small open stainless steel vats, part pressed at dryness (fruit vibrancy), part given extended maceration (structure). High quality Margaret River cabernet made for a long life with decades of change to texture and structure.

Attractive, fresh, brambly summer berries run from red to blue and purple tones with cocoa powder and chocolate on offer, too. The palate has a fresh, supple delivery of uplifting, layered tannins that really elevate the fruit presence to impressive heights. Mulberry and boysenberry flavors meld into spiced-chocolate and cocoa notes on the finish. Elegance with power here. Beautiful now, but better from 2025. Screw cap.

Australia’s two great cabernet regions, Coonawarra and Margaret River, blended together to deliver a powerful and intense style. Aromas of cassis and black cherry as well as cedar and coal dust, roasting herbs and a dark stones. Spicy oak throughout. The palate has nicely groomed tannins and a polished intensity. Concentrated but composed. Drink over the next decade. Screw cap.

It seems this vintage of Thomas Hardy is straight Coonawarra (often it’s a multi-regional blend). Excellent dark purple hue. It's deep, rich and complex. More savoury accents among the hint of cassis and currants. Concentrated, with a density across the full-bodied palate, yet the oak is seamlessly integrated, the tannins ripe and plush. A rather polished wine, built for aging.

87% Cabernet sauvignon, with 7/3/2/1% merlot/cabernet franc/malbec/petit verdot. Matured for 15 months in barrique, 45% new. Cassis and red licorice on the nose, bay and saltbush, too. The palate is salty and fine with layers upon layers of spice and texture. The tannins are like finely textured gills, stacked as delicately as the folds in a mushroom. The length of flavour unfurls and extends across the palate, taking so long to fade that this entire tasting note is possible off one sip. The rest are just for pleasure. Drink it now, or in 40+ years from now… both will be possible.

87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Malbec with 45% new oak. 2,350 dozen made.
Incredible power and concentration here, and yet, still lithe and so finely wrought. It’s ultra-mineral in feel with iron and dense graphite tannin, but perfumed and spice-laden too. The quality and feel of tannin here is something quite extraordinary. Plum and dark cherry, dark tobacco, whiff of empty chocolate box, superb length of flavour. Essence of Cabernet. Essential Cabernet. We’ve never had it so good.
