This is really beautifully rich and opulent with aromas of ripe fruit, caramel and chocolate brioche. Some earth, too. Medium-to full-bodied with soft, integrated tannins that give a cashmere mouth feel. It’s fresh and very long with gorgeous texture and a delicious finish. 98% nerello mascalese and 2% nerello cappuccio. A joint production from Graci and Gaja. So attractive to drink now, but better in 2023.

The 2019 IDDA rosso has taken a big step forward in quality. The tannins are so much more refined. According to Gaia Gaja, they increased the percentage of whole bunches used in the fermentation from 30% to 50%. At the moment, creamy new oak and soft vanilla dominate but it is still very young. Cream and ripe cherry fruit integrate softly on palate with herb and medicinal notes adding intrigue.

Organic, enchantingly fragrant, 100% old-vine Listán Negro from a single vineyard of volcanic and clay soils. Like all the Suertes del Marqués wines, this has so much going on: wisps of smoke and twist of peppery spice, but also wild red berries and currants, and a kind of underlying earthiness. Compulsively drinkable, yet thought provoking.

Beautifully floral nose with some herbal thyme notes. In a medium-bodied style, it’s well balanced and drinkable, the oak is subtle, just adding a touch of complexity. Quite a ‘nordiste’ style in its florality and delicacy, but no lack of intensity. Mostly from the commune of St-Pierre-de-Boeuf (lieu-dit Cotayat) plus around 20% bought grapes from communes further south. 10% whole bunch, 14 months in 228-litre barriques, of which 10% were new. Gentle filtration.

An excellent red St.-Joseph with a slew of forest berry aromas, but also smoke, chocolate and a hint of pepper. Rich palate, but it’s beautifully balanced, thanks to the fine tannins and well-judged oak. Impressive mineral freshness at the long, cool finish. Drink or hold.

Plenty of candied redcurrants and strawberries on this one, as well as orange and lemon tart. The full-bodied palate has real depth and chewy-tannin detail, which makes this a structured pinot noir that will need a few years to soften. Long but elegant on the finish. Drink in 2022.

The sweet, stylish raspberry nose has finesse. Quite rich, veined with fine acidity, this has pungency and drive. Still youthful and not fully harmonious, with some mocha tones on the finish. Elegant and long.
