About this wine

Chris Ringland Single Barrel Stone Chimney Creek Vineyard Shiraz, Barossa Valley

Hailing from Stone Chimney Creek Barossa Ranges vineyard, the vineyard is just under two hectares. The average yield from the 110-year-old Shiraz vines is around 2,500 Kg/Ha.

Each of the sub-sections produces a little ferment of around 450L, and each of these goes into a separate barrel. The barrels are labelled according to where the section is located on the hillside. At around 50 months after the vintage Chris evaluates each of the barrels before creating a bottling plan. Some barrels are allocated to the Chris Ringland Shiraz label and others are allocated to Randall’s Hill.

This barrel for this "Single Barrel” selection came from the extreme South-Eastern corner of the vineyard; a sector that faces North-Nor-East and has the shallowest soil (and hence, more often than not, the lowest per-vine yield).

ABOUT THE WINERY
Chris Ringland
Chris Ringland is a passionate proponent of Barossa Shiraz. He is very much a scion of Robert O'Callaghan's 'Rockford School' . “Meticulous order, accumulation of experience and creativity” are the essence of Chris Ringland’s brand of winemaking. Formerly a winemaker at Rockford, Chris Ringland first purchased his own property in 1994 taking over a decade to carefully restore his old-vine Shiraz vineyard. His flagship wine Chris Ringland Shiraz is sourced from his estate dry-grown vineyard planted in 1910 on the edge of the Barossa Valley, but technically in Eden Valley along Flaxman’s Valley near Randall's Hill. Ringland believes his century-old vines yield Shiraz of unique lushness, tremendous concentration and unusually thick skins. Alongside his flagship, Chris Ringland now produces a range of premium Shiraz wines including CR, Dimchurch, and Hoffmann.
