About this wine
CRAIGLEE Shiraz, Sunbury
Craiglee Shiraz is a distinctive, southern-Victorian Shiraz. The historic, bluestone Craiglee winery, built in 1865, is at Sunbury, west of Melbourne. The 10-hectare vineyard is planted on alluvial river flats close to Jackson's Creek, a tributary of the Maribyrnong River, on sandy soils over river stones. Vinification takes place in open fermenters. A small portion is barrel-fermented. Maturation follows in new and old French oak for between 12 and 18 months.

Jancis Robinson says: ‘Pat and Dianne Carmody are what you might call salts of the earth, and make literally exceptional wines that have an unusual capacity to age in historic surroundings...'

Expert Review
Campbell Mattinson
Composed. Keeping it all close to its chest for now. Dark cherries, roasted meats, black pepper and smoky oak; beautifully integrated and teamed. Lift of redder berries, inching into florals. Tannin has the whip held aloft, ready to crack. Everything in perfect order. Drink to 2035.
95 points, Wine Companion (7/2015).
