About this wine
HENSCHKE Hill of Grace Shiraz, Eden Valley
Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz is Australia’s greatest single vineyard wine. Its fame is connected profoundly with the work of Stephen and Prue Henschke. This intensely perfumed, concentrated and velvet textured wine evokes a family tradition, extreme craftsmanship and a beautiful inimitable aesthetic. It belongs to an unfolding and endless story that evokes the soul of this Australian age.
The vineyard was established at Parrot Hill in the Eden Valley (around 1860) by Nicolaus Stanitzki and has since been handed down through the generations to the Henschke family.

James Halliday
Miraculous crimson colour is an early indication of a Hill of Grace that transcends its reputation as one of Australia's greatest wines, its quality fiercely protected by Steven and Prue Henschke. You'll never guess it came from a vintage overall rated good to very good (rather than outstanding). It moves with grace from start to finish, red fruits keeping a narrow lead over dark/black.

Amazing aromas of wet aged beef, spices, crushed elderberries, peppercorns and bay leaf. Evolves in the glass all the time. Dynamic wine. Full body and polished, fully integrated tannin to the fruit. Finishes very fresh and vivid. Gorgeous to drink now, but will age wonderfully.

100% grown on a small shiraz vineyard planted some time in the mid 1800s. Matured mostly in French oak though 14% spends time in American oak. An icon of Australian wine if ever there was one.
The 63rdvintage of Hill of Grace Shiraz. The longest line of a single vintage wine in Australia. The nose is all heightened blackcurrant, the palate is a bed of roses and plums, the complexities come from leatherwood honey and malt. At five years of age it’s a powerful wine, settled with tannin, blessed with robust rounds of both secondary and primary character. Everything is in its right and proper place, and yet it goes about its business in its own way. There’s muscle here but it’s defined by its flavour profile; those exotic truffle-like characters, those honey-and-soy notes, that tang to the leather. You could easily drink this now, it’s in a lovely place, but no doubt no one’s in a hurry, least of all the wine.
