Established in 1838, Chateau Reynella is seen as the birthplace of South Australian wine industry, as they were the first to grow grapes commercially for winemaking in South Australia. Their first vintage was in 1842 after John Reynell received vine cuttings from William Macarthur from NSW. In 1982 it was purchased by Thomas Hardy and Sons and has subsequently become part of the Accolade stable. McLaren Vale fruit is used to make the Basket pressed Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, full bodied and ripe styles from the warmer McLaren Vale. A vintage Port is also produced. It is now simply called Reynella, dropping the Chateau from its name.
