About this wine

Domaine du Comte Armand Clos des Epeneaux Premier Cru, Pommard

Domaine du Comte Armand holds the exclusive rights to the five-hectare Clos des Epeneaux. This walled vineyard is a true Monopole and sits between the Petits Epenots and Grands Epenots. The site is divided into four distinct plots, with vines ranging in age from 30 to 80 years. This variation in vine age and soil depth contributes to the consistent complexity of the final blend.

In the cellar, winemaker Paul Zinetti employs organic and biodynamic practices. The grapes are sorted and fermented in wooden vats using indigenous yeasts. The wine matures in French oak barrels for up to 22 months, with no more than 30 per cent new oak to maintain fruit purity.

The nose offers aromas of dark cherry, iron, and dried herbs. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and structural. It delivers flavours of black plum and spice, supported by firm tannins and a clean mineral finish. This Pommard is built for long-term cellaring.

ABOUT THE WINERY
Domaine du Comte Armand
Arguably the most famous producer in Pommard, the wines of Domaine du Comte Armand have since the mid-eighties undergone a significant qualitative transformation, first under the leadership of French Canadian winemaker Pascal Marchand and currently under the helm of Benjamin Leroux. For many years the Clos des Epeneaux was the sole wine made at the domaine. In 1994, further vineyards were acquired; Auxey-Duresses, Auxey-Duresses premier cru, Volnay and Volnay Fremiets. Today the domaine maintains a strong adherence to biodynamic viticulture.
