Château Angélus 1er grand cru classé (A), Saint-Émilion

A member of Saint-Émilion's rebellious elite, Angélus withdrew from the appellation classification in 2022, joining Cheval Blanc and Ausone in independence, to pursue their own path. The vineyards of Angélus are planted to a significant portion of cabernet franc, an outlier in Saint Émilion at nearly 47%. The sand, clay, and limestone soils provide ideal conditions for the cabernet franc to ripen fully. This is reflected in the blend, which gives structure and freshness to merlot’s fleshiness and decadence, as well as sophisticated aromatics of tobacco leaf and violets.
