Château d'Yquem has occupied its unique position at the summit of Sauternes — and of the world's sweet wines — since the 1855 classification designated it alone as Premier Cru Supérieur. Made from grapes harvested berry by berry as noble rot progresses, with yields sometimes as low as a single glass of wine per vine, it is one of the most labour-intensive wines on earth. It is also one of the most age-worthy — great vintages can develop for a century. Irreplaceable.
