Château Léoville-Poyferré 2me cru classé, St-Julien
The third Léoville has, under Didier Cuvelier's stewardship, closed the gap on its more celebrated siblings considerably. Rich, modern and deeply concentrated, Poyferré occupies a slightly different register to Barton and Las-Cases — riper, more immediately seductive, but with the structure to age. It is now one of St-Julien's most consistently exciting wines, and a regular contender at the level of the appellation's finest. The Léoville triumvirate is, as a whole, Bordeaux's most compelling argument for a single commune's supremacy.
