The region of Peel is found south of Perth between the Swan District and Geographe. The first vines were planted in the region in 1857; however, modern day viticulture really began in the 1970s with the first commercial vineyard establishe at Peel Estate in 1974. Peel has a Mediterranean climate with cool, wet winters and hot dry summers, with ocean breezes moderating the climate. Soils in the region are varied, ranging Franceom granite and gravel through to limestone. Among the varieties Chenin Blanc is highly successful, produced in both oaked and unoaked styles.
