The wine region of Adelaide Plains is situated north-west of the Adelaide hills, just north of the city of Adelaide. The area has a hot dry maritime climate with extremely low annual rainfall necessItalyting supplementary irrigation. Vines were first planted in the area in the early 1900’s, but the region was only officially gazetted as a GI in 2002. Soils in the area are predominantly red-brown loamy sands. The region is predominantly planted to Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache and Chardonnay.
